Writing style for blogs

I have been intending to write a post on blog writing style for a while now but have been letting it slip behind other priorities. To be honest there’s a reason for my not having got around to this post yet, because I suspect that once I publish the guidelines on how to write for a blog it will be apparent that I’m not quite there myself.

Will Pate from Rain City Studios writes a summary of the Blog Business Summit presentation on writing style by Darren Barefoot and Molly Holzschlag. I’d suggest reading the list if you’re even thinking about writing a blog. Here are a few of the points from the list that seem key to me:

  • Edit your materials before you post, but don’t let your own editing censor your voice
  • Understand the blogging environment by reading for a while before you write
  • Blogging is about telling a story, and extending that story into a conversation

By my count there are 23 suggestions on successful blog writing on the list, I hope I have hit a few of them (this post must count for ‘cite other blogs’ and ‘be transparent and authentic’) and I will keep working towards a full house.
