Globe and Mail WiFi talk

As a follow on from a discussion that started at TorCamp I was invited to speak to a small group of people at the Globe and Mail about WiFi.

The group I was speaking to was one of the many tasked with ‘re-imagining’ the Globe, I assume in reaction to generally slipping newspaper circulation figures. This particular group was looking at wireless technology and I was there in my Wireless Toronto hat to give some background on what we’re doing at WT and offer a few suggestions on how it might be relevant to the Globe. Overall it was a good experience, there was definitely interest in the concepts of free/community WiFi within the group and I hope I helped to provide a useful picture of what’s possible.

Not much news here really, but I was pleased to be invited and thought it was worth a mention, I am a consultant after all so being consulted is good.

It was a fairly high level talk. I gave an overview of what we’re up to at Wireless Toronto, then tried to make a few suggestions about how this might fit in with a media company (geotagging online articles so they can be served as location specific content for example). There were quite a lot of questions from the group, so hopefully a seed was planted.
